Experiment 2

Concepts:

Adolf Loos advocated the concept of minimalism in the craft of everyday objects, ultimately rejecting the idea of decoration and ornaments in objects. This largely was due to the waste of effort spent on creating such decorative items that were not necessary in the functioning of items. It should also be noted that Loos believed in the beauty of minimalism, not just the functionality of such an approach.
My model seeks to mimic this concept of minimalism through the large massed slabs of stone that have the sole purpose of providing structural support, rather than producing enclosed, busy spaces for the public. The thin platforms also evokes a 'sleekness' in the visual composition of my model, furthering my minimalist approach.

Veering away from the focus on visual composition, the Rural Studio program stresses the need for sustainable, ethical projects in disadvantaged communities. With limited money and access to extravagant materials, the rural studio team focus on providing communities with the most economically efficient homes as possible, minimising waste and operational costs.
My model incorperates such a concept through the recyclable nature of wood in the walls of my model. Additionally, the garden space and widespread plants scattered in my model encourages the separation of space through greenery, rather than solid walls- reducing the manufacturing costs of materials such as concrete.
